Clinics
NWI’s two clinics are open Monday-Friday. Staff members train as rural community health workers, known as Promotoras. They provide basic health care, including pediatric checkups and vaccinations; monitoring of chronic illnesses; first aid, triage, wound, and foot care; and nutrition and wellness classes. The clinics also distribute bandages and over-the-counter medicines – items rarely found in many Naco homes – and loan medical equipment. All services are free. Bisbee volunteers provide Reiki and other alternative treatments.
The clinics also serve as community centers. The Promotoras provide friendship and support to all. Activities include lively, fun homework help for children ages 3 to 12 twice a week, complete with healthy snacks; a weekly senior center gathering on Wednesdays, featuring lunch, Zumba, conversation, and bingo for 50 or more participants; free community music lessons (guitars provided); and daily shuttle service to San Jose Organic Community Garden for volunteers.
“In all our work, we focus on what you need to live a long, healthy life.”
